Obituary of Angela Dea Giansante
Please share a memory of Angela to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Angela Dea (Rosati) Giansante, 90, of Lockport passed away peacefully on January 31, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Roccamorice, Italy, on July 22, 1925, to Corradino and Maria (DiPronio) Rosati. Her mother died when she was 9, and Angela became a loving caregiver to two younger siblings.
Her father moved the family from Italy to Lockport where Angela grew up and attended Sisters of Mercy nursing college. In 1946 she married her childhood sweetheart Anthony Giansante and they began life together in Vineland, N.J., eventually moving back to Lockport, N.Y., where she worked as a nurse at Lockport Memorial Hospital. She and her husband also started Gi-Ro Cleaners, a business still in the Giansante family today. They raised nine children, attended St. Patrick's church faithfully and sang in the choir for decades. She shared 67 years of love and happiness with her husband before his passing in April 2014. She was also proud grandmother of 21 and great-grandmother of 5.
Angela and her husband also spent many winters in Clearwater, Fla., where they enjoyed frequent dinners and dancing as members of the Italian American Club.
Besides being known for her cooking skills, she was fond of sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren, and knitting afghans and slippers for adults and children. She often donated the slippers to children's hospitals, including St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
She will be remembered for the unconditional love she showed to others, especially to her family.
She is survived by her children, Louis (Joan) of New York City, Maryanne (David) Edens of Rochester, Minn., Joseph (Carol) of Saratoga Springs, Thomas (Patrice) of Santa Rosa, Calif., David (Stacy) of Lockport, Rosanne (Barry) Brogan of Saranac Lake, Susanne (Richard) Russell of Amsterdam, Joanne (Howard) Bull of Lockport and Dianne (Mark) DiPasquale of Hamburg; siblings, Carl Rosati, Anna Pitzo, Maria Lessing and Antonio Rosati; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
