Obituary of Sandra R. Karlak

Sandra "Sandy" R. Karlak passed away January 11, 2016 in Niagara Hospice House. Born March 6, 1938 in West Grove, PA she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Florence (Mahan) Thompson. Sandy earned her nursing degree in 1959 and worked as a staff nurse and charge nurse at Mount View Hospital from 1960 to 1967 from there she went on to work at Newfane Nursing Home from 1967 to 1972 as the director of nurses. She then worked for Harrison Radiator where she was a staff nurse. Sandy was an active volunteer with many local associations such as the WNY AIDS Program, Eastern Niagara County Div. American Heart Association, Niagara Falls Chapter of American Cancer Society, was a charter member of the Niagara County Healthy Heart Program all from 1987-1990 and numerous other programs. She was a member of Who's Who in America, enjoyed reading and knitting.
Sandy is survived by her husband Michael G. Karlak of Lockport; "sister" of Butch Heaton of Lockpor; several nieces and nephews; dear friends Jadzia Insalaco and Nancy McIntyre; her dog Jake. She was predeceased by her sister Jean E. Taretaglia.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, January 16th from 1-5 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where services will follow at 5 PM. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery. Visit www.pruddenandkandt.com.
