Lewis "Lewie" lived across the street (Vine St) in
Lockport NY when we were kids. I was a year or so younger than him and enjoyed seeing him come home from school in the afternoons. I would holler, "Hello Lewie" but he wouldn't acknowledge that he even heard me. He was sporty and had a baseball and bat and one day (I was trying to impress him) he tossed the ball pretty strongly to me and I hit it so hard it went over his two story garage to the yard around the block from us and it broke his bat. He ran into his house and though I didn't think he cursed, I'm sure he was mighty angry. That was the end of playing with Lewie. Oh well. He was probably quite relieved when we moved out of that neighborhood a couple of years later. In fact we moved pretty far out into the country and I changed schools. End of Louie. For fun, I looked him up online recently (I'm now 80) and see that he never married. Oh well. Sorry girls. I hope that I didn't cause him to turn against females.
Barbara (Thurston) Petty.
