Donald John Starkey passed away May 3rd 2015 in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport. Born January 10, 1956 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Elizabeth (Petrie) Starkey. Don graduated with an Associates Degree from Niagara County Community College after which he worked for 40 years retiring January 1, 2015, from Tops Market in Lockport where he was the produce manager. Don was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #40; free time was spent fishing, reading and doing what he enjoyed most, spending time with his entire family. Don is survived by his wife Carol Gmerek Starkey; father of Jeremy (Kristina) Hazlett, Kristen (Adam) Hagagi, Alexander (Dayna) Hazlett and Benjamin (Mary) Starkey; grandfather of Madison Hazlett, Nathaniel Montes, Olivia Hazlett, Kiley Hagagi and Harrison Hazlett. He also is survived by his brothers, his twin David (Kathy) Sharkey and Douglas Starkey and was the son-in-law of Robert and Sophie Gmerek. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 4-8 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY where funeral services will be held Wenesday May 6, 2015 at 11 AM. Interment will be in Corwin Cemetery, Newfane. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094 or Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240 would be appreciated by the family.
