Obituary of Martin Abernathy Jr.

Martin L. Abernathy Jr. passed away February 27, 2009 in Buffalo General Hospital. Born January 1, 19 32 in Springfield, MO., he was the son of the late Martin L. Sr. and Eva Starcher Abernathy. Martin was attending Southwest Missouri State University, when left to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After the war Martin went to work for Harrison Radiator as a machine repairman, until his retirement. He was a member of the B. Leo Dolan Post 410 American Legion, past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Tuscarora Yacht Club. He enjoyed his work, cooking, camping and especially spending time with his family. Martin is predeceased by his wife Evelyn Mullen Abernathy, who passed away November 5, 1995.
Martin was the father of Mark (Diane) and Robert Abernathy, Paula (Mike Murphy) Scheffer, Deborah (Daniel) Haseley, Gail (John) Linderman all of Lockport, Judy (Paul) Swanson of Clarence Center and the late Kathleen. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his sisters Peggy Neimier and Barbara Roundtree both of Nixa, MO. Martin is also survived by several brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving cat affectionately known as 'Cuddles'.
Friends may call Sunday evening 7 to 9 PM and Monday 3 to 7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where prayers will be offered Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 391 Market Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated by the family.
