Obituary of Robert Moje

Robert W. Moje passed away January 19, 2009 at Hospice of Buffalo, Inc. Born October 22, 1933 he was a lifelong resident of Pendleton he was the son of the late Wallace and Mary (Monkelbaan) Moje. Robert went to the one room School House #7 on Beach Ridge Road and graduated from Lockport Senior High School class of 1950. After graduation he worked for the Pendleton Highway Department until 1966 when he went to work for Midland Asphalt in Tonawanda of which he retired in 1995 as a power operator. Robert played Euchre for Brauers Team for over 50 years serving as captain for many. He was a charter member of the Pendleton Historical Society,the Pendleton and Wendelville Senior Citizen Centers. Robert was one of the first trainies for the Pendleton Panthers Little League football team and served on the Board of Directors. He joined Wendelville Fire Company in 1959 and was a line officer for many years including being first aid captain for 15 years and was chief in 1967. Robert was Fireman of the Year in 1970. But one of his proudest moments was installng each of his sons as chief of the fire company and receiving a proclamation from the Niagara County Legislature for being the first father and three sons to all be chiefs of Wendelville. Robert's father, Wallace also served for over 50 years. This year his gradson, Matthew, joined making three active generations again. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to Rushford each year. Robert always looked forward to hunting season and his spring fishing trip to Lake Semcoe. He was a member of the Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association, served on the Pendleton Recreation Committee, served in the Army from 1954-1956 and on the Board of Directors on the Niagara & Erie Insurance Company.
Robert is survived by his wife Lauraine (Gregson) Moje of Pendleton whom he married August 8, 1953; father of David (Ann) Moje, Randy Moje, Paul (Kathleen) Moje all of Pendlton and Cheryl (David) Wright of Lockport; grandfather of Jennifer (Peter) Chenier of North Tonawanda, Matthew, Joshua, Zachery, Andrew Moje all of Pendleton, Brooke and Brittany Wright of Lockport; great grandfather of Christopher Chenier and the late Elizabeth.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday eveing from 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 AM in Good Sheperd Roman Catholic Church, 5442 Tonawanda Creek Road, North Tonawanda. Interment will be in Wheatfield Cemetery. Memorials to the Summit Educational Resources in honor of Joshua Moje, 150 Stake Rd., Getzville, NY 14068 would be appreciated by the family.
