Obituary of Dorothy Haley Hickey

Dorothy M. Haley Hickey passed away Tuesday December 30, 2008 in Niagara Hospice House. Born in Lockport on May 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Kathleen Collins Haley. Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1951, and received her Bachelor's and Masters Degree in Education from Buffalo State Teachers College. Dorothy taught at Emmett Belknap and Roy B. Kelly Schools in Lockport for 33 years, retiring in 1988. Dorothy was a member of the St. Joseph's Academy Alumni Association, St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society, Niagara County Historical Society, Retired Teachers Association, Four Season's Theater Group and the County Cork Association.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 21 years Martin B. Hickey of Lockport, stepmother of Anne Hickey, Martin D. (Nellie) Hickey and Julie M. Nolan. Step-grandmother of Nicole and Katie Nolan and Brendan and Daniel Hickey. Sister of Monica Wruck of Tampa, Fl., Rita (Daniel) Illig of Lockport, Mark Haley of MI., Janet (John) Taylor of Lockport and Frank (Jane) Haley of Florida. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers Eugene, Raymond, William and Earl Haley.
Friends may call Thursday evening 7 to 9 PM and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where prayers will be offered Saturday at 12 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM in All Saint's Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 76 Church Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lockport. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.
