Sally Porter Obituary

Sally N. Porter passed away February 12, 2008 in Niagara Hospice House.� Born January 4, 1931 in Buffalo she was the daughter of Wesley W. and Edith A. (Wells) Nichols.� Sally graduated from Bennett High School and attended Buffalo State College earning her degree in education.� She worked for the Lockport School District teaching first grade at Anna Merritt Elementary School retiring in 1991 after 35 years.� Upon her retirement Sally decided to be involved in several organizations to make her "retirement years mean something".� She was a member of the Women's College Club, YWCA, Kenan Arts Council, Salvation Army, Dale Association, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Cornell Family Study Club, Friends of the Library, United Way and most notably Niagara Hospice where she was involved with the Bereavement Department since 1991.� Sally was awarded several awards through these organizations such as the Betty Dale Award through the Dale Association, Outstanding Citizen with the Salvation Army, Direct Patient Care Volunteer of the Year, Patricia L. Evans Founders Award and the Ernie Leder Speaker's Bureau Award all with Niagara Hospice.� She was predeceased by her husband whom she married October 6, 1956, William H. Porter in 2004.



Sally is survived by her three children Janice Porter of Lockport, Susan (David) Stepnick of Maryland and Jeffrey (Debra) Porter of Lockport; her four grandchildren Michael William Porter, Jennifer Porter, Chelsea Porter and Kristina Yadloczky; sister of Gayle (John) Murphy of Lockport and the late Wesley W. Nichols, Jr.; also survived by several nieces and nephews.



Relatives and friends may call Thursday and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.� Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 AM in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Avenue, Lockport.� Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.� Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated by the family.
