Obituary of Bonita Thursam

Bonita Thursam, formerly of North Tonawanda, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday April 24, 2010 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born October 31, 1917 in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Alma Urtel Behm. Bonita married LeGrand Thursam on September 25, 1937, who predeceased her in April 1984. She has been in Lockport since 1984, where she was a Resident of the Village Mobil Park. Bonita volunteered at Briody Health Care Facility, Wyndam Lawn Home and for HANCI as a foster grandparent. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gasport Jets Senior Citizens, of which she was the pass president for two terms and the Hartland Historical Society. Bonita worked as a seamstress for 16 years, retiring in 1998 and she loved to crochet, crossword puzzles and doing different crafts.
She is survived by her daughter Janice (Robert) May, formerly of Gasport, now of Naples, Fl.; grandchildren to Michele Tomkinson of Lockport Brad (Paige) May of Newfane and Cameron (Angela) May of Barker; great grandchildren Karyssa, Kaylee, Rachel, Mateo, Natalia, Macie and Milayna; great great grandmother of KaeSaan McKnight. Bonita was the sister of Delores (Robert) Batt, Clearwater, Fl., Roger Behm of North Tonawanda and the late Kermit Behm. She is also survived by her niece Kathleen Patrick of Lockport, as well as several other nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends may call Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 AM. Interment will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda. Memorials to the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church or to HANCI would be appreciated by the family.
