Carlton Sprenger Obituary

Carlton E. Sprenger passed away January 10, 2008 in Newfane Rehab & Health Care Center.� Born November 1, 1925 in North Tonawanda he was the son of the late Walter and Mabel (Rieck) Sprenger.� Carlton served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 during WW II.� While in service on board the USS Woolsey he and his unit earned the Navy Unit Commendation Award for extremely meritorious service during the invasion of Sicily and off Licata, Gala and Salerno.� He also earned the European Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal.� Carlton worked as an electrician for Wurlitzer, was a life insurance agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Company and retired as the manager of the OTB.� Carlton was an avid sportsman and a life member of the American Legion B. Leo Dolan Post 410, VFW, Navy Marine Club, the Columbia Hook & Ladder and the Tin Can Sailors.� He was predeceased by his wife Helen Bistoff Sprenger in 1992.



Carlton is survived by his daughters Mary Lou Dolphin of Lockport, Helen Matranga of Oklahoma, Elizabeth (Thomas) Dolphin of Michigan and Barbara (Raphael) Butler-Morris of Lockport; grandfather of thirteen and great grandfather of nineteen; brother of Allan (Norma) Sprenger of Indiana and Kenneth (Betty) Sprenger of North Tonawanda; also survived several nieces and nephews.



Friends may call Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.� Funeral services will be held Monday 11 AM in Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6965 Chestnut Ridge Road, Lockport.� Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.�
