Frank C. Hixenbaugh, Sr. of Lockport passed away April 19, 2010 at home after a long illness under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born February 7, 1927 in Charleston, WV to Josephus and Mary (Six) Hixenbaugh. Frank moved to Lockport and worked at Harrison Radiator for 32 years retiring in 1987. He also worked as a crossing guard for 15 years. Frank was a member of the VFW Post 2535 and held the Post of Commander from 1965-1966. He served in the US Army during WW II in the medical unit from April 26, 1945 until December 28, 1946. Frank was a very kind man always ready to lend a hand to someone in need and receiving very little in return. He loved to have fun, singing country songs, dancing and playing the guitar. Frank was predeceased by his first wife Lois in 2000 and a son Daniel in 1963.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Virginia DeVoe Hixenbaugh whom he married May 10, 2008. He is survived by his two sons Gary Hixenbaugh of Newfane, Frank Hixenbaugh, Jr. of Lockport, his two daughters Cheryl Walsh of Middleport and Judy (Patrick) Allen of Lockport; step-father of Robin (Barbara) DeVoe of Newfane, Darryl (Michaelene) DeVoe of North Tonawanda and Crystal (Tod) Main of Lockport; also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother of Wilma Sprester of Florida and several nieces and nephews who thought the world of their Uncle Frank and like wise; also survived several dear friends. Frank was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 6965 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
