Donald Eugene ‘Whit' Whitney, cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, December 31st at Lockport Memorial Hospital.� Born in Buffalo on December 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Dallas ‘Bill' and Loraine Whitney.� Whit moved to Lyndonville, NY at age 3 and then to Gasport to live in the house that he built for his family.� He served his country in the US Army 88th Blue Devils Division, stationed in Italy during and following World War II.�

He worked for the New York Telephone Co. for 40 years retiring in 1989, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America as well as the American Legion.� Whit loved to fish, putter in the basement and spend time working in the yard, garden and "Green forest" with his beloved wife Sarah.� He spent most of his mornings at the kitchen table with his wife, drinking coffee and watching the birds on the front porch.� He also enjoyed having breakfast at Gordie Harper's with his "telephone buddies".� Married September 9, 1950, he is survived by his loving wife Sarah (Bucolo) Whitney; beloved father of his four girls, Stephanie (Jay) Marotta, Maria (Dan) Tyson, Donna (Dale) Faulkner and Linda (Dan) Bernard.� Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Jason, and Michael Marotta, Adam and Julia Tyson, Amanda Rose Faulkner and Emily and Jeremy Bernard.� Beloved brother of Joanne Whitney of Lyndonville, he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Whit was adored by everyone he met and loved the life he had with his wife and very close daughters and grandchildren.� He will be greatly missed and thought of everyday.� Family and friends may call Thursday 7-9 at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.� A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 391 Market Street, Lockport.� Internment will be at Cold Spring Cemetery.� Memorials to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 would be appreciated by the family.
