Obituary of Anthony Gioia

Anthony "Tony" Gioia passed away September 17, 2008 after a long illness.� Born August 8, 1917 in Lockport he was the son of the late Luigi and Eva (Barone) Gioia.� Tony served in the US Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945 during WW II in the 5th Bombardier Group as a Pilot and Flight Engineer.� While in service he earned the American Service Medal, Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.� Tony was a member of the 380th Bomb Group attending ten of their reunions. �He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.� He was an avid bowler, gardener, determined repairer and fixer of various items for his family and did not quit until they were done right, he also had his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying his own plane.�� His true passion was spending time with his family and feline friends.

Tony is survived by his loving wife Donna (Pringle) Gioia of Lockport; devoted father of Louis A. Gioia of Indiana, William J. (Brandi) Gioia of Kenmore and Laura J. Gioia of Lockport; cherished grandfather of Benjamin, Caleb and Elijah; dear brother of the late Joseph Joy; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-5 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport where prayers will be offered Monday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 391 Market Street, Lockport.� Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery.� Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380 or to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.�
