Obituary of Rita McElwee

Rita T. McElwee, formerly of Medina, passed away August 28, 2008 in Briody Health Care Facility, Lockport.� Born March 8, 1914 in Medina she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Hanna (Magner) McElwee.� Rita graduated from the Brockport Teachers College and worked for 19 years with the Medina School District retiring in 1972.� She also taught in Japan from 1958 to 1959 and in Germany from 1960 to 1961 teaching the children of the soldiers at the US Army Schools.� Rita was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, Ladies of Charity and Catholic Daughters of America.� She was an avid artist, enjoyed painting and crossword puzzles.

Besides her parents Rita was also predeceased by her siblings Hugh Dawson McElwee, Philip McElwee, Robert McElwee, David McElwee and Florence Kilroy.� She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carl (Mae) Kilroy of Lockport, Robert (Ann) Kilroy of Olcott, Sue Sullivan of Cheektowaga, David McElwee of Medina, Lynn McCarthy, Gail Booth both of Fairport, NY, Dr. Hugh (Trudy) McElwee of Colorado, Candy (John) Masters of Rochester, Michael (Margaret) McElwee of Syracuse, Judith (Roger) Skull of New Jersey, William McElwee of Florida, Thomas (Patricia) McElwee of Georgia, Dennis (Lisa) McElwee of Texas and Betsy (John) Alexander of New Jersey; also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation.� A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport.� Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Medina.
