Mary Evelyn Straasburg (Mc Gonigle) entered into rest on August 30, 2008 one day after celebrating her 89th birthday with family and friends.

Mary Evelyn was born August 29, 1919 in Coudersport, PA.� She was the daughter of Curtis J. McGonigle and Mary Evelyn Calhoon and the sister of James, William, Frank and Jesse McGonigle all of whom predecease her.� She was a lifelong resident of Lockport, graduating from LHS in 1937.� She went on to attend nursing school at Deaconess Hospital where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.� She was an switchboard lighting up on Pearl Harbor Day.� She worked for DuPont Chemical Company during the war.� Later she worked at Mt. View Hospital.� Mary was instrumental in starting the Foster Grandparent Program and served as a director for a short time.� Mary loved to play cards, especially bridge.� She also enjoyed golf and dancing.

She married Orville Strassburg, who passed away in May 25, 2008, on September 28, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church.� She was the loving Mother of Susan (Calvin) Stoddard of Lockport, Sallie (Kenneth) Miller of Cuba, NY and William (Tammy) Strassburg of Pittsford.� Devoted Grandmother of Jeffrey and Christen Stoddard, Matthew, Jessa and Andrew Miller and Tyler, Parker, Leah and Quinn Strassburg.� Great Grandmother of� 4.

She was a member of the Dale Association, Club 60 and Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

There will be no prior visitation.� The family will be present at Mt. Olive Church, 6965 Chestnut Ridge Road, Lockport at 9 AM on September 13th, where a celebration of Mary's life will be held at 10 AM.� In Lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in Mary's name to the building fund of the Lockport YMCA, Breast Cancer Research or to the Children's Memorial Park.�
