Obituary of Dorothy Ritz

Dorothy Felice Ritz, beloved wife, mother and sister went home to her Lord on August 9, 2008 after a courageous battle.� She had been under Hospice Care at home and passed away at Niagara Hospice House.� Dorothy was born of August 15, 1924 and was a life-long resident of Lockport.� She graduated in 1942 from Lockport Senior High School.� Her parents were George and Lenore Piedmont LaForest.� She married her high school sweetheart, Salvadore (Sam) Ritz, on a cold, snowy December day in 1944, where he was on liberty leave from the US Navy.� They were blessed with 63 years of Marriage.

Surviving, in addition to her husband Sam, are four children, Judy (Tom) Jones of Lockport, Jerry Ritz and Rodney Ritz of Stuart, Fl. and Ritchie (Pam) Ritz of Brooksville, Fl. �Four grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Jones, Timothy Jones, Raymond Ritz and Bryan Ritz; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, and Matthew Jones and Alexandra, Sarah, and Zachary Lawton.� Also surviving is Dorothy's best friend and sister, Delores Gailor and sister-in-laws, Lily Stanton and Mary Lou Ritz.� Dorothy was predeceased by her young son, Raymond Ritz and her only brother, Robert Felice.

Dorothy was an active member of the family of parishioners at St. Anthony's for all her married life.� She will always be remembered as a woman who cherished her role of wife and mother.� A woman who could make homemade macaroni, fresh baked bread, and her special orange cake for birthdays.� Her kitchen was her pleasure and family and guest enjoyed both the food and her hospitality.� She could do any kind of handwork; knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing, embroidering and the patience to teach others.� Much of her handwork was made for the happiness and comfort of others.� Dolls made for the Missions in Africa, hats for the premature babies, and aphgans for the gift shop at Lockport Hospital.� She would crochet throat covers for tracheotomy patients for the American Cancer Society.� The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Dorothy in her home and at Hospice House.� A special thank you to Joanne Stoll for her dedication to Dorothy and to her chosen profession.

Memorial contributions, if you desire, may be made in Dorothy's memory to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.� There will be no calling hours.� A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church here in Lockport at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 12th.
