Obituary of Robert Wilson

Dr. Robert M. Wilson, 80, of Lockport, a former Chief of Staff at Lockport Memorial Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at U.B., died July 3, 2008 at Lockport Memorial Hospital.

He was former chief resident in medicine and associate chief of the renal section at E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, now ECMC.
�
Dr. Wilson was a research fellow for the National Institute for Health at UB/Meyer Hospital and a fellow at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C., both in renal medicine specializing in kidney dialysis.� He helped to establish the dialysis center at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital.
�
Dr. Wilson was a diplomat for the National Board of Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
�
For many years, he was a physician for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catherines, Ont.
�
He had a private practice in internal medicine in Lockport for 40 years, retiring in 2006.� He was a Captain in the Army Medical Corps in Korea and Japan in the 1950's.
�
Dr. Wilson was a graduate of Amherst Central High School, attended the University of Arizona, where he played on the basketball team, and graduated from UB School of Medicine.
�
An avid runner, he started the Lockport Runners Club and placed several years in the Buffalo News year-long runners standings.� He ran his first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., at age 65, and ran several marathons after that.� He was a long-time runner in Buffalo's annual Turkey Trot.

Son of the late Dr. Robert J. and Helen Wilson, he is survived by his wife, Margaret (Ross); six sons, Robert M. Jr. (Nancy), William R., Richard D., Thomas M. (Nancy), Daniel M. (Julie) and Andrew M. (Jennifer); three brothers, Thomas M., Kevin D. and Terence M.; two sisters, Joanne M. (George) Vossler, Joyce Wilson; seven grandchildren.

Visiting is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday, at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.� A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10 AM Saturday at All Saints R.C. Church (former St. Patrick's), 76 Church Street, Lockport.� Memorials to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240 would be appreciated by the family.
