Cooper, Douglas O., June 24, 2008 of Lockport, NY, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Beloved husband of Brenda M. Eikemeyer Cooper (nee Schuner). Devoted father of Frank (Christine) and Kim Marie (Steve) Smith. Beloved stepfather of Laurie (Alan) Weitzsacker, Suzanne Eikemeyer and Peter (Julie) Eikemeyer, Jr. Loving brother of Jolene Young (Bill, d. 2006). Beloved grandfather of Francesca and Maria Mangine; Anthony and Michael Cooper. Beloved stepgrandfather of Amy (Gary) Morgan, William Seaver, Stephanie and Christopher Mussel, Dylan Makowski, John, Anne and Grace Eikemeyer. Doug is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 7 nephews. Born in Lockport on July 20, 1933, Doug was the son of Harold and Gladys Cooper. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Donald. � Doug graduated from Lockport High School in 1952 where he was an all-star athlete. He served in the United States Army as an MP from 1953 to 1955, once serving on special guard detail for President Eisenhower. He is a member of, the American Legion Post 410. �He worked at Harrison Radiator for 30 years, retiring in 1983 to devote more time to coaching football. � Doug&amp;#39;s passion for football began in high school and as a player on the semi-pro Lockport Esso team (1955-1960). �In 1962, he helped organize Lockport Little Loop Football, coaching in the league for 8 years. In 1970, Doug was given his first opportunity to coach at the high school level by his mentor, Coach Les Dugan. Known to many as Coach Cooper, his 46 year coaching career included positions at Wm Penn College in Iowa, The College of New Jersey (Formerly Trenton State College), St. John Fisher College, and University of Wisconsin at Platteville. He was also head coach of the semi-pro Lockport Invaders. &amp;quot;Coach Coop&amp;quot; is best known for his volunteer work as a coach in local area schools: DeSales, Lockport; Newfane and Wilson. He mentored many student-athletes, who went on to become coaches. Coach Cooper took great pride in the young athletes he had the opportunity to work with. � Friends may call Thursday, June 26, 2008 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport where funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, 2008 at 10 AM.� Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.� Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or DeSales Catholic School, 6914 Chestnut Ridge Road.
