John W. Barnwell, II, 78, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008 in Niagara Hospice House after a lengthy illness.� Born June 11, 1930 in Lockport he was the son of the late John W. and Otilla (Steblein) Barnwell.� John graduated from Lockport High School in 1949.� He was in the US Army and served his country from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.� He delivered mail part time for the Lockport post office and worked as a fireman for 28 years the City of Lockport retiring in 1985.� John was a life long member of All Saints RC Church where he belonged to the Holy Name Society.� He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Lockport AOH and enjoyed baseball especially the Yankees of which he was an avid fan, playing horse shoes and gardening, known for his tomatoes and rhubarb.� He was predeceased by his wife of more than 40 years Iona (Heuring) Barnwell on January 15, 2001.

John is survived by his children Beverly (Paul) Salomons of Branchburg, NJ, John (Leslie) Barnwell of Lockport, Robert (Joette) Barnwell of Powder Springs, GA and Michael (Natalie) Barnwell of Lockport; grandfather of Patrick, Nataleigh, Elizabeth, Matthew, Sean, Eric, Collin and Alyssa; brother of Rosemary (Harry) Clark of Lockport, Nancy (late Martin) Prendergast of Sebastian, FL and Kathy (Charles) Stoll of Lockport; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.� A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 AM in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 76 Church Street, Lockport.� Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.� Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated by the family.
