Russell D. Gardner, Sr. entered into rest June 4, 2008 in Buffalo General Hospital.� Born September 29, 1938 in Lockport he was the son of the late Henry and Marion (Scripture) Gardner.� Russell is a graduate of Newfane High School class of 1958 upon graduation he entered the US Army serving 23 years where he was a highly decorated serviceman.� While in service Russell earned several medals and awards such as the National Defense Service Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star W/V Device.� Russell was a member and past president of the Newfane Lions Club and a member of the American Legion of Newfane and the VFW in Edgewood, MD.

Russell is survived by his wife of 49 years Susan (Levi) Gardner of Newfane; father of Sherri (William) Smith of Newfane, Russell (Patty) Gardner, Jr. of North Carolina, Gerald (Tracey) Gardner and Rebecca (Daniel) Zayac, Jr. both of Newfane; grandfather of Heather, Kelly, AJ (Lindsey) DeChambeau, TJ Smith, Amanda, Derek Gardner, Rachel (Kurt) Austin, Marianne, Marc Zayac and Ashley, Dakota Everett; brother of Carolyn (Ronald) McCormick of Olcott and the late Roger Gardner and Barbara Gardner; brother-in-law of Jet Gardner; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
