Obituary of Dr. Thomas Regan

Dr. Thomas C. Regan passed away Friday April 18,2008 in Reston, VA. Born April 28,1923 in Buffalo,NY he was the son of Michael H. and Helen McCarthy Regan. Dr. Regan attended Lockport Schools and Canisius College before entering University of Buffalo Medical School receiving his medical degree in 1948, served a one year internship and a four year residency in general surgery at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
Dr. Regan served in the US Army and Air Force for a total of 13 years. He was chief of surgery at hospitals in Geneva, NY, Valdosta, GA, Fairbanks, Alaska and St. Louis, MO. Although he planned on making the Air Force a career he was called by a close friend, Dr. Salvatore Piazza and asked to come to work in the Ransomville Hospital in 1959. Two years later he opened his office in Lockport. He was on staff at Lockport Memorial and Newfane Inter-Community Hospitals and served two years as chief of staff at Lockport.
Dr. Regan served as school physician for the Lockport High School attending every football game to be there if needed. Along with his busy schedule he was Niagara County Coroner. He enjoyed relaxing with a daily swim, as well as boating and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years the former Donna Lofgren Regan whom he married November 11,1951; he is the father of Dr. Michael P. (Candace) Regan, of Austin Texas, Debra Regan of Boston, MA, Timothy C. (Jennifer) Regan of Bethesda, MD and Jeffery T. (Melissa) Regan of Herndon, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Caitlin, Patrick, David, Erin, Kiera, Liam, Dylan, Alison and Alexis Regan and also survived by his sister Mary Regan Condon and family of Lockport.
Relative and friends may call Tuesday evening 7 to 9 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Memorials to Lockport Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund, 521 East Avenue, Lockport, NY 14094, Attn: Susan Wendler would be appreciated by the family.
