Mary Margaret Pepe, 97, of Lockport, NY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2015 with her daughter Susan and granddaughters Mary Lauren and Alyssa by her side. Born June 23, 1917, in Barren Island, New York to Edward and Katherine (Nikiperowicz) Karpowicz. Mary grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She was the oldest of eight children Walter, Stephanie , Frank, Jane, Edward, Andz and Stas. Mary's father owned and operated a neighborhood butcher shop in Brooklyn, NY. Mary attended Catholic Schools and graduated from Bishop MacDonald High School. As a young woman she worked as a comptometrist at the Bull Steamshop Company across the street from the Empire State Building. Mary married John Gerard Pepe on February 11, 1945 at the age of 28 in Brooklyn, NY. They had five children together. Due to her husband's work with the Sperry Gyroscope Company, they made many moves along the East Coast. The many places they called home were Queens, NY., Savannah, Georgia, Great Mills, Maryland, Milford, Delaware, Gramby and Springfield, Massachusetts, East Northport, NY., and Miami and Naples Florida. Mary and John moved to Lockport, NY in September 2001 to be near family. Mary was a dedicated wife to John who passed away on February 9, 2004. She loved her family dearly and remained a devoted Catholic her entire life. Not one to sit idle, Mary was very industrious always working on some domestic project. She was an excellent cook and baker. Mary loved to sew and upholster. During her life she continued to carry on with many Polish traditions for her family to enjoy. She was hardworking and enjoyed doing all the landscaping at her homes. She had a real passion for reading. Mary lived a full and productive life. Her kind spirit, ever-present smile and beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten. At peace now, Mary will finally join her loving husband John in heaven. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Angelo) DiMillo and four sons, John (Patricia) Pepe, Robert (Kathy) Pepe, Thomas (Nora) Pepe, and Michael (Char-rene) Pepe; 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Taralyn), Mary Lauren, and Alyssa DiMillo, Patrick (Lacy), and Lisa Pepe and Melissa (Dave) Panek; and her 4 great-grandchildren Angelo and Luca DiMillo, Willow Panek, and Sienna Pepe. Friends may call Sunday April 19th 1 to 5 PM, in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 20th at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. <h3>Visitation</h3> Friends may call Sunday April 19th 1 to 5 PM. <h3>Services</h3> A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 20th at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. <h3>Interment</h3> Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
