Obituary of Anna Elizabeth Gifford

Anna Elizabeth Gifford passed away February 12, 2015, in Briody Healthcare Facility. Born in Rockhill Furnace, PA., she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (nee Linn) App. Elizabeth was raised in the Orbisonia School and graduated from Juniata College in 1936, and taught elementary education. She married the late Preston Gifford in March of 1940 and moved to Lockport in 1948, where she worked at Montgomery Ward until she retired in 1982. In her retirement, Anna volunteered at Lockport Public Library. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she served many different positions. Anna was the mother of John (Sue) Gifford of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet (Henry) Mietlicki of Lockport and James (Meg) Gifford of Buffalo; grandmother of nine and great grandmother of 9. She was the sister of the late Donald App, and is also survived by her sister in-law Grace App of Ohio. There will be no prior visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Avenue, Lockport, NY 14094 or to National Parkinson Foundation Western New York Chapter, 300 International Drive, Suite 224, Williamsville, NY 14221, would be appreciated by the family.
