Obituary of William E. Crecelius

William "Bill" Ewald Crecelius passed away Wednesday November 12, 2014 in Niagara Hospice House. Born June 11, 1929, he was a lifetime resident of Lockport, he was the son of the late William Elias and Lillian Ewald Crecelius. Bill graduated from Lockport High School in 1948, and served in the US Army as a paratrooper and radio operator achieving the rank of Corporal during the Korean War era. His 11th Airborne Head Quarters Company was assigned to monitor the effects of the Atomic Bomb tests at Yucca Flats Nevada for Operation Desert Rock in 1951. He worked for the Lockport Fire Department for 31 years, achieving the rank of Assistant Fire Chief, Bill led the effort to implement the city firefighter's EMT program.
Bill was active in our community as well as professional organizations, Past president of Firefighter's Local 963 and the Firefighter's Benevolent Association, Past member of the Board of Director's Lockport City Hospital, Long time secretary of the Lockport Midget League Baseball, Life member of the Elks Lodge #41, Member of B Leo Dolan American Legion Post 410, Member of Niagara County Fire Chief's Association as well as the Western New York Retired Firefighters Association. Bill was also a Civil war buff who loved the History Channel and a lifetime New York Yankee and Buffalo Bill's fan.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Adrienne (Brockway) Crecelius, who he married on November 24, 1956. Father of Jeff (Lenita) Crecelius of Flowery Branch, Georgia; Grandfather of Laura Crecelius (Joshua Wells) of Lawrenceville, GA; Kaleigh (Elvis Mehmetaj) of Sugar Hill, GA and a great-grandson, Ali. He is also survived by a cousin Joan Capps of Smyrna, TN and son Brent Capps, a Brother-in-law , Bruce Brockway and wife, Teri of Sun City Center, FL. and a niece and nephew Alicia (Stanley) Radosky and Kevin (Lisa Brigham) Brockway
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.
