We loved spending time with Mel & Joyce, they were always fun to be with, we shared a lot of family times as well as going out to dinner. They are 2 of the most loving, generous people we have known. Joyce was the maid of honor at our wedding and Mel photographed the ceremony--such great memories. Our sympathy to Terry, Judy and Michael and extended families--our hearts go out to you--Love you all!

Mr. Weir was the greatest of teachers! He believed in me and made me believe in myself. I worked hard in his Business Law and Accounting classes because he encouraged all of us to do our best and he genuinely wanted us to succeed. Mr. Weir, may you rest in peace with your beloved wife. Prayers go out to his family. He will always be with you. ❤️

I was saddened to see that your father passed away. I know your mom died only a year ago, and in fact, I sent your father a card/note at that time. I know what a great man your father was - he was a good teacher and a wonderful mentor to me as his student. I will always remember him as "my favorite teacher", but he was truly a kind and gentle man.

Additional Obit Info
Melvin L. Weir passed peacefully, at home on July 1, 2014. Born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1940, he was the son of Melvin E. and Viola (Goodenough) Weir. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Canisius College and his Masters Degree from Niagara University. He was the owner/operator of Weir Accounting services for 45 years. He also taught Mathematics at DeSales High School and Business/Accounting classes for 30 years at Newfane Senior High School. Mel, a deeply religious man of faith, was a member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, where he proposed to and married his loving wife, Joyce. His service activities included serving on the Lockport Hospital Board and counselling children and teens through Father Baker Service in Buffalo. He was active in NYSUT (New York State United Teachers), NTA (Newfane Teachers Association) and National Society of Public Accountants. He believed strongly in faith, family, education and working hard. He had a passion for boating, spending time with family at the lake and cottage in Wilson, listening to good jazz music. Mel was a great storyteller and had quite a sense of humor. He really cared for and enjoyed helping his clients through the years.
His beloved soul mate of 49 years, Joyce, passed away, after a long illness, July 24, 2013. Joyce was beautiful inside and out and often remarked that Mel was the most kind-hearted person she knew.
He is the devoted father of Michael (Linda) Weir, Theresa Weir Sallee, both of Lockport and Judith (Robert) Dockery of Appleton; proud grandfather of Joseph (Kristin) Sallee, Mitchell and Joshua Dockery; great grandfather of Jack Sallee and one great granddaughter (birth expected within days).
He is brother of Gloria Hanrahan of Rochester, the late Rosemary Johnston, the late Richard Weir and is also survived by several brother/sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His children /grandchildren would appreciate the loving support and prayers, from relatives and friends, on Sunday, July 6, from 2-6 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Flowers in loving memory are welcome. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 7th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. A private burial will be held for Mel and Joyce to enter into rest, together as one, as per their wishes. Visit www.pruddenandkandt.com to ;eave an online condolence.
