Obituary of James S. Calos

James S. Calos passed away Tuesday May 27, 2014 in Briody Health Care Facility. Born in Buffalo on January 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Mumalos Calos. He graduated from Lockport High School and attended the University of Buffalo and Clemson. James served as Aviation Cadet to be a pilot during World War II, after the war he worked as a buyer for Harrison Radiator, and then went to work at Diversified Manufacturing as the Plant Manager. James was a former board member of the Chamber of Commerce, where he was a past board member, the Lockport Rotary Club, where he was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow, the Tuscarora Club, Lockport Elks Club, former member and past president of the Lockport Manufacturing Council, past member and director of the Red Cross. James was also a member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church where he was an usher. After retirement he worked for Meals on Wheels for several years, coached a Little League Baseball team for several years and was a loyal NY Yankees Fan. James also enjoyed golf, reading and woodworking.
James is survived by his wife and best friend of 68 years, Clarita 'Dottie' (nee Moran) Calos. Father of Linda (Tom) Harper, James (Nancy) Calos and Thomas (Anne) Calos; grandfather of five and great grandfather of five. James was the brother in law of Monsignor Thomas Moran, Shirley Nagel, Virginia (Tim) Tracey and Hazel Calos. He is predeceased by his siblings, Elaine Serdensky and Anthony Calos. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday May 29th 4 to 7 PM, in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday May 30th at 1 PM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
