John E. Burke passed away January 5, 2010 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. Born February 4, 1931 in Newfane he was the son of the late Charles and Edith (nee LePine) Burke. John served in the US Army from 1951 to 1954. He worked at the post office for 40 years where he a mail clerk and rural carrier. He worked at Kenyon's Variety for 49 years. John also worked for three years at Sacred Heart Academy. He was a member of the American Legion, All Saints Parish where he was an usher and he was also an officer for Lockport Little League. John was an avid Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics fan and diehard Lockport Lions fan of all sports. John's life was his family. He received great joy and pride watching his granddaughters participate in dance and sporting events. John is survived by his wife of 57 years Christine (nee Grottanelli) Burke of Lockport; father of Patrick (Becky) Burke and Roxanne (David) Smith both of Lockport; grandfather of Kirsten (Derek) Kenny, Kyla Smith, Kacey Smith, Andrea Edsall, Bridgette Burke and Lindsey Burke; great grandfather of Eamon John Kenny; brother of William Burke, Rita Chase, Mary Burke, Patricia (Stephen) Cuzzacrea and the late Robert Burke, Jane Miller and Virginia Ritzentahler; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 4-8 PM in Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport where prayers will be offered Friday morning at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM to be celebrated in All Saints Parish at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 76 Church Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery. Memorials to the John E. Burke Athletic Scholarship Fund for Lockport High School Students, 250 Lincoln Avenue, Lockport, NY 14094 or to the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, 3860 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14226 would be appreciated by the family.
