Its so hard sitting here trying to sum up the life of the man I called Daddy, so I'm going to us his own words. One night not to long ago we were sittin out in the barn havin a beer, talkin and he said to me
"Kid I like to ride horses, shoot guns, smoke cigarettes and drink beer. I've had half the bones in my body broke on account of horses, motor cycles, and bar fights. I've driven back hoes, bull dozers, and dump trucks. I've fallen out of speeding cars and off of moving trucks; I even had a tree fall on me. And I'm still here. The Big Man pulls your chain when it's your time and there's nothing you can do about it." He then took a long draw off his Genny Cream Ale and with a big gun said "I can honestly say I had a good ride, got my moneys worth!"
He was a mans man that called himself A jack of All Trades, Ass of None and Claimed he could fix anything but the break of day and a broken heart.
If you're reading this you have probably driven over a bridge he worked on, a pipe line he helped to lay or been in a building he built to roof supports for. Growing up I remember piles of steel and sheet metal magically turned into Crane booms and Race Cars. He took great pride in hi s work and shared his knowledge freely. He taught me to work hard, think for myself and to take personal responsibility for my actions. He was my Hero!
Instead of a funeral I'm going to hold a memorial pot luck pig roast in the spring with music by Jonsie & the Pal Bearers.
In lue of cards or flowers, please, please make a generous donation to Niagara Hospice. Without the compassionate care and professional services they provided for him and the emotional and physical support they gave me, my daddy would not have had the opportunity to pass peacefully with dignity at home. Special thanks to Cheryl Ferguson, my father was grateful; you were there to guide him on his way. Thanks to all, Suzy.
