Obituary of Richard A. Pearce

Richard A. Pearce passed away March 20, 2014, at the age of 85, under the care of Niagara Hospice surrounded by his family. Born in Buffalo on February 22, 1929 he was the son of Arthur J. and Adeline (Speck) Pearce. Richard was 17 years old when he joined the US Navy, serving on the USS Portsmouth. In October of 2012 he flew with the WNY Hero's to Washington DC to see the WW II Memorial. He worked for Dupont in Tonawanda for 20 years, and then for JW Swanson & Associates where he retired from in 1983 and he also served as the assessor for the Town of Pendleton for many years. Richard was a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in Pendleton where he was a lector, served as a trustee and an extra-ordinary minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the USS Portsmouth Association. Richard enjoyed wood working, making furniture, making the altar, lecturn and pew prayer book holders for the church. He also enjoyed remodeling houses, playing, cards, salmon fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years Lillian (Kompare) Pearce of Pendleton; father of Richard Pearce of Lockport, Sue (Dan) Foley of Ransomville, John (Carol) Pearce of Wheatfield, and Kathy (Brad) Griffiths of Pendleton; grandfather of eleven, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; predeceased by two grandchildren, Rhonda Previte and Gregory Menzel.
There will be no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 30th at 2 PM in Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 5442 Tonawanda Creek Road.
