Obituary of Dorothy Webster

Dorothy Stockwell Webster, age 95, of Lockport, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday after a long and purposeful life. She was born in Lockport to Frank and Ada Stockwell on February 2, 1918. After graduating second in her class from Lockport High School in 1935, Dorothy went on to Barnard College at Columbia University in New York City, where she graduated with a degree in economics in 1939. After graduating from Barnard, Dorothy found work on Wall Street, working as a financial analyst. &amp;quot;It was during the Depression,&amp;quot; Dorothy once wrote, &amp;quot;and jobs were hard to find. I made up my mind that if I could just get a job I would never complain about the work, and I never did.&amp;quot; After the war, Dorothy moved back to Lockport and married Dudley Webster. Together they raised two handsome, kind and intelligent boys, John and Jeffrey. Dorothy immersed herself in all aspects of parenting, from being a Cub Scout den mother to heading up the John Pound PTA, the city PTA, and becoming associate director of the Niagara County PTA. With her husband Dudley, Dorothy was the co-owner of Howard C. Korff Furniture store. She was active in many Lockport organizations, and over the years acted as President of the Board of Directors of the Lockport YWCA, was Second Vice President during her 38-year membership of Zonta Club, was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Library where she worked on book sales, was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church, member of Kenan Center, Senior Citizens (Dale Association), and the Lockport Historical Society. She was also a 65-year member and President of the Modern Mothers&amp;#39; Club. She has received many awards and honors, including a key to the city of Lockport, an International Women&amp;#39;s Decade Award, and volunteer and Lifetime Achievement awards from the YWCA of Niagara. Dorothy was a career pacesetter in her financial and business careers, and was a role model to many with her selfless dedication to local organizations and charities. She had a large circle of devoted friends, with whom she would meet regularly for meetings, meals, theater and conversation. Dorothy was a kind, generous, brilliant, elegant and gentle spirit, full of life and curiosity. Hers was a life full of learning and doing. She loved dancing and swimming and exercise. She was an avid reader and dedicated theatergoer, and loved to travel the world. Dorothy&amp;#39;s quick wit, big heart, and sparkling blue eyes will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children John (Marianne) Webster and Jeffrey (Vanessa) Webster. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and a grandchild-in-law: Jessica Webster Sendra, Karen Hale, Robert Webster, Alexander Scott-Webster, Andrew Scott-Webster, Patrick Scott-Webster, and William Blue, and one great-grandchild, Jacob Sendra, as well as two nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband Dudley L. Webster, parents Frank and Ada Stockwell and stepfather JohnnPrast, as well as her sister Eleanor Frase. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at 11AM, Friday, December 13, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St., Lockport, NY.
