Obituary of Helen (Cain) Ostrom

Mrs. Helen Louise (Cain) Ostrom passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born on January 8, 1921 to Willaim J and Louise Day Cain at McNall's Corners, NY. Several years later the family moved to Lockport. Mrs. Ostrom was a 1940 graduate of Lockport High School and continued her education at Bryant and Stratton in Buffalo. On December 11, 1941, Helen Cain married Elmer Van (Whitey) Ostrom in Lockport, NY. Together they raised three children, Douglas Van, Jacquelyn Renee and Gail Diane Ostrom. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Ostrom was employed by the Cotton Batton, was the Manager at Denton Vallis Plastics, and was employed by Harrison Radiator for 17 years from which she retired in 1983. She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and traveled throughout the world during her retirement years including trips to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Elmer V. (Whitey) Ostrom on April 6, 1982, her granddaughter Colleen Mary on November 22, 2001 as well as her twin sister Mrs. Hazel Louise Cain Baries Fitzgerald who passed away on March 28, 2012 and her sisters Mariella Forsyth, Katherine Stump, Shirley Moll and brother Shelden Cain. She is survived by her three children Douglas V. (Virginia Iafallo) of North Venice, FL, Jacquelyn R. of Alexandria, VA. And Gail D (Paul) Brown of Lockport; She is also survived by three grandchildren David Van Ostrom of Dallas, GA, Gregory Brown of Correopolis, PA, and Matthew Brown of Lockport; she is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Patricia (Cain) McCabe of Albuquerque, NM., as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Saturday, November 2rd from 3-6 PM in Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 3th at 2 PM in the Emmanuel Methodist Church, 75 East Avenue, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
