Gerald F. "Jerry" Speer passed away October 21, 2013 in Hospice House under their and the families care. He was born October 21, 1927 in Ashbury Park, NJ, the son of William and Ethel Curchin Speer. "Jerry" served in the US Army and was a long time grocer owning and operating Jerry's Market on LaGrange Ave. retiring in 1982 after 37 years to pursue a career as a Real estate Broker as Speer Real Estate and also working with Kevin VanDusen and the E.G. Vossler Realtor. An avid reader he authored stories and poems that were published. For relaxation "Jerry" enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, gardening, bicycle riding and was a devoted grandfather and great grandchildren.
"Jerry" is survived by his wife Arlene Coumont Speer; father of April (William Rees) Bumpers of Buffalo, Scott (Debora) Speer of Lockport and Jerilyn (Larry) Lecrone of Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason (Kerry) Bumpers, Drew Bumpers, Mallory (Shawn) McNicholas, Sonya (Christopher) Hinzie, Kursten (Kenny) Sirmans, Leighandra, Alexis and Jelena, Great grandfather Cooper, Julian, Kaydnz, Caleb, Micah, Jesse, Brooklyn, Christopher, Corey, Jonathan and Julianna. He is also the brother of John Speer and the late Robert, William, Philip, Alan Speer and Bertha Speer.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Jerry's life November 16th, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport NY 14094 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
