Obituary of Helen Cappola

Helen Z. Cappola passed away September 23, 2013 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born in Lockport on September 20, 1923 she was the daughter of James and Rose (Liberato) Zinni. Helen worked for the Niagara County Board of Elections as a clerk for ten years. She was an active member of the Democratic Party, the NYS Democratic Committeeman, Chairman of the City of Lockport Democrat, was the Lockport City Womens Democrat Committee and also was a Delegate to National Democratic Convention in 1984. Helen was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church where she also belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her husband John "Chief" Cappola in 1993, son Joseph Cappola and daughter Mary Elena (late David) Keleher.
Helen is survived by her two daughters Kathleen (Charles) Miller of Amherst and Christine (Anthony) Gatto of Lockport; grandmother of Daniel Keleher, Jacqueline (Jeremy) Keleher-Hughes, Brian (Heather) Keleher, John (Barbara) Cappola, Alexis Miller, Reginald Miller, Bianca Gatto and Allyson Gatto; great grandmother of eight; sister of Emma Walker of Canada, Mary Kubiak, Amelia "Mim" Artieri both of Lockport and the late Theresa DeFilippo, John Zinni, and Connie DiRisio; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, September 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 28th at 10 AM in All Saints Parish Oratory, 391 Market St., Lockport. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated.
