Obituary of Richard Shipley Sr.

Richard H. Shipley, Sr. passed away September 10, 2013 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born December 28, 1926 in Lockport, he was the son of George and Katharine (Gross) Shipley. A graduate of Lockport Senior High School, Richard served US Army from 1946 to 1947earning the Army of Occupation medal and WW II Victory Medal. He worked for 40 years as a model maker for GM Harrison Radiator. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, where he served the Holy Name Society for 54 years, but also served in his many friends' congregations. Richard was also a member of the Harrison Retirees, coached baseball for both the Lockport Little League and Midget League and enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling in his free time. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ruth (Gartner) Shipley on November 28th, 2010.
Richard is survived by his children Susan (Michael, Lt. Col., Ret.) Feeley of San Antonio, TX, Gail (Mark) Hamilton of Gasport, Karen Shipley, Richard H. Shipley, Jr. and Stephen Shipley, all of Lockport; grandfather of Kevin, Megan Feeley, Bryan Hamilton, Sara (John) Castellucio; great grandfather of John and Nicholas Castellucio; brother of Anne (Stan) Domski of Lockport, the late George R. (Frances) Shipley and Jean (Richard) Hamm; also several nieces and nephew.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, September 13th from 4-8 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 14th at 10 AM in All Saints Parish, 76 Church St., Lockport. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum.
