Obituary of James Switzer

James M. Switzer passed away August 10, 2013 in Odd Fellow & Rebekah Rehab & Health Care Center. Born in Lewiston on January 29, 1919 he was the son of Milton and Nellie (Chapman) Switzer. James graduated from Lockport High School Class of 1939 and from Ohio Northern University Class of 1943 with a degree in Civil Engineer. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 serving in the Pacific Theater of WW II and was a First Sergeant of 648th Engineers in the Philippines. James at one time was Vice President of Frontier Stone, partner of Lockport Prestress, and owner of Switzer-Shardon Oil Co. and Marion Oaks Ace Hardware in Ocala, FL. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where James served as President of Trustees for several years and also belonged to many other committees of the church. James was also a member of the Niagara Lodge #375 F. & A.M., Masonic Ismailia Shrine, and Lockport Shrine Club. He was a past president of the Board of Directors with the Cornell Co-Operative Extension, a former 4-H Leader, and also member and past master of Pekin Grange. James was predeceased by his wife Dorothea (Wood) Switzer in 2004, whom he married on July 17, 1946 and brothers George Switzer, Morris Switzer and sister-in-law Molly Switzer.
James is survived by his children James M. (Nancy) Switzer, II of Lockport, Jean Ann Switzer McGrath of Cross River, NY, Glen W. (Leslie) Switzer of Ocala, FL and Linda (Marshall) Switzer-Roth of Lockport; grandfather of James Switzer, III, Laura Switzer Malloy, Patricia Brubaker, Michael McGrath, VonHayes Switzer, Reinhardt Switzer, Baldwin Switzer and Jillian DeJohn; several great grandchildren; brother-in-law of Carol Switzer of Lockport; also several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, August 16th from 2 to 4 and 7 to9 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Masonic Service by the Niagara Lodge will be Friday evening at 9 pm in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17th at 10:30 AM in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Ave., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
