Salvatore Marotta, devoted husband and beloved father and grandfather passed away suddenly on December 1, 2009 in Lockport. Salvatore lived in Lockport for 88 years and was a devoted life-long member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church. In 1942 he was drafted to serve in World War II as a Quartermaster for the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. In 1946 he returned home to continue working at Harrison Radiator as a skilled tradesman. Shortly after his return, he met and married the love of his life, Amelia Valery in November 1946. He and his wife raised two children in the home he built for his family. In 1980 he retired from Harrison's to take care of his wife and was devoted to lovingly caring for her every day of her lengthy illness until her death in 2002. Salvatore enjoyed working in his garden and especially loved growing tomatoes, garlic, and eggplant. When he was not in his garden he enjoyed cooking, watching birds from his kitchen window, and going to LaPort's with his "Breakfast Club" buddies each morning. Above all, Salvatore treasured his family, especially his three grandchildren who were the light of his life. He was devoted to his family and made sure each one always knew how much he loved and adored them. Those who knew "Sam" will always remember him as a hard-working, religious, moral, devoted and extremely loving man. His smile and love will be thought of and cherished for years to come. Sam is survived by his children John (Stephanie) Marotta of Gasport and Rosemary Marotta of Florida; grandfather of Elizabeth, Jason and Michael Marotta all of Gasport; brother of Ida Marie (late Anthony) Scalzo of Lockport and the late Anthony (late Anna) Marotta, Ralph (Mary) Marotta, Emma (late Anthony) Peca; also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
