Obituary of Bernard Prahler

Bernard J. (Red) Prahler, of Lockport, NY, passed away August 5, 2013. Born on November 10, 1916, he was the son of Henry and Matilda Prahler. He was a 40 year employee of Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors, culminating his employment with 22 years in the Tool Room and he owned and operated a farm on South Transit for many years. Mr. Prahler was a lifelong resident of Lockport, a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Lockport; a Third Degree Honorary member of the Knights of Columbus with over 50 years membership and a past volunteer of the South Lockport Volunteer Fire Company.
An avid NASCAR and stock car racing fan, Bernard attended the Daytona 500 NASCAR race for 32 consecutive years. He could also be seen at local race tracks at Lancaster Speedway and Ransomville.
Over the years he also performed lawn rolling and snow removal for many of Lockport's residents, as well as preparing the turf for the initial startup of the Little League ballpark on Lincoln Extension.
Predeceased in 2010 by his wife, Evelyn Ruth Prahler, he is survived by his sons David (Janet) Prahler of The Villages, FL, and John (Roberta) Prahler, Lockport; granddaughters Jamie Spry and Donna Prahler, both of Lockport; and, three great grandchildren. He also was the brother of Ruth Naylor of Lockport and the late Henry Prahler, Viola Fiegle, Lorraine Nichols Marian Larrow and several nieces and nephews.
Relative and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Thursday morning August 8, 2013 at 10 o'clock in St. John the Baptist, R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery. Those wishing may make donations to the Catholic Charities of Buffalo, 741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14209 and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
