Obituary of Thomas C. Beatty
Thomas C. Beatty passed away April 25, 2019 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born October 19, 1956 in Warsaw, NY he was the son of Chester L. and Mary A. (Williams) Beatty.
Thomas C. Beatty earned an Associate in Science degree in criminal justice from Niagara County Community College in 1976. He was appointed a Niagara County deputy sheriff in 1978 and graduated from the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy. In 1979, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Niagara University. He progressed through the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office, becoming a captain in 1986. In 2009, he was appointed chief deputy, the third-highest ranking position in the Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Beatty has received several significant individual recognitions, including the Sheriff’s Distinguished Service Award for “while in performance of his duties demonstrating outstanding service and dedication to the department and the citizens of Niagara County.” He also received the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Craig C. Harmon Award for “his commitment to overall excellence to duty, his community, co-workers and family.
In May 2018, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office back-up dispatch center was named in his honor, after many years working on the emergency communications system for the county of Niagara.
Thomas is survived by his wife Heidi (Foltz) Beatty; his brother John R. (Sandy) Beatty; and two nieces Allison and Jillian Beatty.
