Charles J. Morello Obituary
Charles J. Morello passed away after a brief illness, July 2, 2026 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born April 5, 1944 in Lockport, New York, he was the son of Angelo and Jennie (Villella) Morello, and a 1963 graduate of Lockport Senior High School. He served on the City of Lockport Fire Department from June 14, 1965 until April 10, 1999, and then continued his distinguished career on the state level as President of the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association (NYSPFFA) in Albany (1998-2006).
During his tenure at LFD, Charles served as vice president (1970-72) and president (1972-1998) of Lockport Professional Firefighters Local 963. As a state representative, he held the positions of First District Vice President, Executive Vice President, and President of NYSPFFA over the course of three decades. In retirement, he served for six years on the city of Lockport Board of Fire Commissioners (2019-24). Throughout his career, he was a tireless advocate for the welfare and safety of his fellow firefighters.
He received numerous professional certifications over the years, and as a Certified EMT with the NYS Department of Health, was one of the first 100 graduates in New York State.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Diana (Hale) Morello, whom he married January 16, 1965; son, Charles J. (Selena) Morello, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Marnie Morello; sister, Cheryl A. (Paul) Oates; grandsons, Angelo Morello, Bode Morello, and Joseph Morello; nieces and nephews, Angela (Pat) Long, Jacqui (Rick) Conklin, Linda (Bob) Hickman, and Rob (Judy) Dockery; and a wide circle of friends in the fire service, throughout New York State and around the country.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Joseph A. Morello, his sister, Angela Madden, and his nephew, Michael Dockery.
