Duane E. Hill Obituary

Duane E. “Dewey” Hill, age 73, of the Town of Lockport, passed away on April 29, 2026, while under the care of Niagara Hospice.  Born in Akron, OH to the late Kenneth and Thelma (nee Gongwer) Hill, he was the husband of the late Sandra (nee Wrobel) Hill.  Duane was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.  He had been employed as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years until his retirement, and had achieved membership in the Million Miles Club.  He was also a member of the Gasport Lions Club, where he received the Robert J. Uplinger Award and the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.  Dewey was an avid boater and fisherman, and loved spending time with his family. 


He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Debra J. (nee Smith) Hill, two daughters Michelle Hill and Gabrielle Hill, a step-son Ryan (Stephanie) Kelley, and his late step-daughter Amy Kelley, eight grandchildren Audrianna, Rodney, Leo, Taylor, Brant, Jamie, Brady, and Anthony, a sister Carol (Jim) Herring, his mother-in-law Barbara (late Harold) Smith, a brother-in-law Gordon (Maryann) Smith, two sisters-in-law Sherry Hill and Jennifer Smith; and was pre-deceased by his brother Phillip Hill and his sister Phyllis Hill.


Family will be present on Saturday, May 2nd from 1-4 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St. in Lockport.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4th at 10 AM in Emmanuel United Methodist Church 75 East Ave. in Lockport.  Burial will be in Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport, NY.  In lieu of flowers donations to Roswell Park Cancer Institute or Niagara Hospice would be appreciated.
