Clorinda Mabel Vazquez Obituary

Clorinda Mabel (Cologgi) Vazquez, 80, entered eternal rest on April 17, 2026, while under the compassionate care of Niagara County Hospice. Born on September 28, 1945, in Merlo, Buenos Aires, Argentina, she was the beloved daughter of Pasqual Cologgi, originally of Giuliano di Roma, Italy, and Josefina (Analise) Cologgi.

At age 13, Clorinda immigrated to the United States with her sister, Yolanda, in 1959. They made their home in Lockport, NY, with their paternal aunt and uncle, Mary DeCesare and James Cologgi. Clorinda learned English, embraced her new community, and proudly graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1965.

During a visit to her sister in New York City, Clorinda met her future husband, Fidel Angel Vazquez of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. Fidel immediately recognized his future wife, and the two married in 1966. Although they began their life together in New York City, Clorinda soon realized that the fast pace of the city was not where she wanted to raise a family and persuaded Fidel to return to Lockport.

After raising her two daughters, Clorinda returned to the workforce as a home care aide—work that brought her deep fulfillment. She served with Mercy Home Care of Western New York in the early 1980s and later at the Lockport Presbyterian Home from the 1990s through the early 2000s, retiring after a long and meaningful career of caring for others.  Clorinda’s passions included preparing her cherished Argentinian empanadas for family and friends and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Fidel, who passed away in 1996. She is survived by her daughters Leslie Vazquez (Don Murphy) of San Diego, CA, and Monica Vazquez of Lockport, NY; her sister Yolanda Cologgi of Lockport, NY; and her nephew Juan Ramirez of Porto, Portugal. She also has several nieces and nephews who reside throughout the east coast of the United States, as well as Argentina and Puerto Rico.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Saturday, May 9, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A memorial service will be held onsite at 1:30 p.m. during visitation, officiated by Senior Pastors Moses and Jennifer Akin of New Creation Church in Toronto, Canada. Interment will take place at Cold Springs Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
