Ruth A. Oakes, age 93, of Lockport, passed away on Thursday, March 12th, 2026 while under the care of Niagara Hospice House.  Born on January 19th, 1933 to the late Robert and Dorothy (Domedion) Maxwell, she was wife of the late Harold G. Oakes who passed away in 2006. Loving mother of David Oakes, Daniel (Lori) Oakes, and Sherryl (Wesley) Dugas. Dear grandmother of Jessica, Christopher, Chad, Jarrett, Eleata, Ericka, and Joseph. Beloved great-grandmother to Jake, Evan, Brodie, Mia, Alaina, Emma, Abby, Petra, Evelyn, Lawson, and Laiken. Sister of William Maxwell, Sharon (Phil) Haendiges, and the late Lois (late Russell) Macaluso and Janet (late Frank) Meyers. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a secretary for the Lockport City School District for 22 years.  She loved to travel and was a member of the UAW Travel Club and the Pendleton Senior Citizens. She was always busy doing various crafts, gardening and volunteering in her church. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved them with all her heart.

Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, March 19th, 2026 from 4PM-7PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St, Lockport, NY 14094. A Funeral service will follow Friday, March 20th, 2026 at 10AM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St. in Lockport.  Interment will be at Acacia Park Cemetery in Pendleton, NY.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Ruth’s honor to Niagara Hospice or the American Heart Association.
