Phillip D. Rosenberg Obituary

Phillip D. Rosenberg born in Lockport February 3, 1957 passed away March 4, 2026 under the care of Niagara Hospice.  He was predeceased by his parents George and Shirley Rosenberg and his loving companion Sandy Chido.  Phil retired from the City of Lockport Fire Department where he was Captain.  As a firefighter his EMS crew were the first to covert a patient with the departments defibrillator and when he was Lieutenant Phil rescued three people off of a roof during a house fire. 


A standout athlete in baseball and basketball Phil had many personal and team accomplishments.  He led the Lockport Senior High School basketball team to an undefeated Niagara Frontier League Championship in 1975.  He was the first LSHS player to score over 1,000 points, and was named 1st Team All-WNY basketball.  As far as Phil’s baseball career, he pitched a perfect game versus Niagara Falls High School.  He was All-NFL Pitcher and named LSHS Athlete of the Year 1975.  Phil went on to the University of Buffalo where he excelled athletically as well.  There he beat nationally ranked University of Miami in 1978, named ECAC Pitcher of the Week, and was named Most Valuable Pitcher in 1980.  Phil was active in several baseball leagues and teams including the Lockport Bus Lines where he won the Suburban League and All-Around Championships and also won11 consecutive AAA MUNY League Championships with the Voyageurs.  He also won gold, silver, and bronze medals with the Western Region Baseball team in the Empire State Games.  Phil was inducted in the first class of the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008, and also the WNY Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002, in 2008 as a team member of the Voyageurs, and again in 2024 with the Lockport Bus Lines team.  He was also in a movie, “The Natural” starring Robert Redford where Phil played the role of the pitcher on the opposite team.  He was recognized by the Lockport Common Council and the Niagara County Legislatures for his many accomplishments.

No prior visitation.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 18th at 11 AM, at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.  In lieu of flowers donations to Niagara Hospice or to your local MS Society would be appreciated.
