David K. Smith, of Lockport, NY, passed away at home on October 30, 2025. Born on January 16, 1953, he was the son of the late Joseph D. & Diane (Helbling) Smith. 

David graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in 1971.  He worked at Harrison Radiator Company & General Motors for 33 years.   David was the oldest of seven siblings, and a mentor to over 20 grandchildren of Kenneth & Lucille (Layer) Helbling. His biggest joy growing up was spending time with his grandfather at the cottage on Lake Ontario.  David was fascinated with the history of Lockport and loaned his personal catalogue to the Niagara County Historical Society recently for the 200th Erie Canal Anniversary.  He spent countless hours at the Lockport library and was passionate about his Irish heritage.  During his trip to Ireland in 1978, he gifted the official flag of the Irish Republic to the City of Lockport that still waves on St. Patrick’s Day today.  His historical memory was exceptional, recalling entertaining stories and belting out an Irish song at will.  David was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his nieces & nephews and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.

He is survived by his siblings Douglas (Karen) Smith, Darlene (late Jim) Dempsey,  Deanne (Edgar) Lang, and Danelle McCanna, several nieces & nephews who fondly called him “Uncle Mouse” and cherished friends.  Predeceased by beloved sisters, Debbie Hanusin & Donna Foltz, niece Trish Hanusin and nephew Davey Foltz. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation Thursday, Nov. 6th from 4-7 PM at Prudden And Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  A Mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov.  7th at 10 AM at All Saints Parish, 76 Church St., Lockport.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com
