James F. Sparks Obituary

With great sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of James Sparks, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family.

Known for his warm and cheerful greeting, “Top of the morning!”, James brought joy, kindness, and generosity to everyone he met. Born on January 10, 1940, he was the devoted son of the late R. Carleton and Ethel Sparks. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Sparks; sisters Carol (Brian) Griesser and Marcia (Zenon) Zakrewski; brother-in-law Jack Brundage; and son-in-law Paul Joseph “Danny” DiMillo.

James shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Lorraine (DiTullio) Sparks, and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and service.

A proud graduate of DeSales High School, Class of 1957, James went on to attend Erie Tech. He was a self-made and highly respected businessman, Leading Sparks Plumbing and Heating (founded by his father), which he owned and operated for over 50 years. In retirement, he continued his entrepreneurial spirit as the developer of Sparks Custom Homes.

A man of strong Catholic faith, James was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of the Lions Club, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a dedicated volunteer at the All Saints Food Pantry where he especially loved hosting the annual summer picnic.

A generous philanthropist, James created a lasting legacy in the Lockport area. He believed in giving back and lifting others up. But above all, he believed in family first, cherishing every moment of family vacations, gatherings, and simply being together.

He is survived by his four children, whom he loved dearly: Thomas (Sheri) Sparks, Kathleen DiMillo, Judith (David) Arlington, and David (Jody Chesko) Sparks. He was a cherished grandfather to Angelo, Carmella, Roserita, Danny (DiMillo); Margaret (Andy) Drescher, Hannah, David (Arlington); Christopher (Haley) Luce, Jennifer Sparks, James, Mason, Sandra (Sparks), Leah, Evan, and Jenna (Chesko). He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Dawson, Sawyer, Sophie, and Benjamin. He is also survived by sister Linda Brundage, sisters-in-law Patricia Sparks, Sandy (Mike) O’Neil, as well as several nieces and nephews.

His final gift was through ConnectLife, as a tissue donor, continuing his lifelong commitment to helping others.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, generosity, and devotion will live on through all who knew him.
