

Obituary of Eva Martha Shantz
Eva Martha (Mast) Shantz passed away suddenly following an illness on June 14,2025 at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo, NY. Born August 31,1933 in Clarence Center ,NY to Levi and Mary (Miller) Mast. Her parents were a part of the Amish-Mennonite community in Clarence Center . She was the oldest daughter of a family of 15. She often was the one who made bread early in the morning for the large family. She went to Bible college at age 20 in Kitchener, Ontario where she met her future husband Carl Menno Shantz. They Lived on a farm in Arcade, NY for the first 6 years of their marriage and 6 of their children were born there. They moved to Clarence Center, NY had two more children and lived the rest of their lives there together. She loved her children and grandchildren and loved to sew, quilt, bake and garden. She made a quilt for each one. She was famous for her blueberry and apple pies that she made often at many family events. She did many crafts and loved to paint ceramics. She lived in the Pine Apartments in Lockport NY for 6 years and then most recently was a resident of the memory care unit of Absolut Care of Aurora Park.
Eva is Survived by her 8 children Wayne ( Stephanie) Shantz, Carl (late Debbie) Shantz, David (late Jodie) Shantz, Renee' ( William) Stockwell, Paul (Bonnie) Shantz, Phillip Shantz, John Shantz and Juliane (Russell) Sterlace; twenty seven grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. She is survived by siblings Clarence Mast, Raymond Mast, Sarah Histand (Marvin) Slabaugh, Naomi Hostetler Kniss, Edward Mast and Ralph Mast. Also many nieces and nephews from both sides. She is predeceased by her husband Carl M. Shantz on June 26, 2015; And also her siblings Marvin Mast, Daniel Mast, Melvin Mast, Lloyd Mast, Alvin Mast ,Leroy Mast, Jacob Mast and Gladys Mast.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation, Thursday, June 19th from 4-7PM at Prudden and Kandy Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport . Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 20th at 10 AM at the Northgate Church: Harris Hill Campus, 5225 Harris Hill Rd., Clarence. Interment will be in the Good Cemetery, Clarence, NY. Luncheon to Follow at Sean Patricks at 3480 Millersport HWY,Getzville, NY at 1 PM
