Tyler J. Godfrey Obituary

Tyler J. Godfrey passed away June 6, 2025 in Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 14, 1994 in Newfane, NY a son of Steven Godfrey, Christina (Stinson) Unger, and cherished step-son of Jeffrey Unger. He was a handyman for Ulrich Development Co. Tyler loved being outside, he enjoyed lacrosse, hiking and pick up hockey and football games. He also had a huge sneaker collection.  Tyler was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Bandits, and watching both college football and college lacrosse.


Tyler loved the game of lacrosse.  Once he put a stick in his hands you rarely saw him without it.  Tyler played for Lancaster youth teams and for the Lancaster Redskins where his position was an attackman.  He played on travel teams for the Buffalo Storm, and B.L.A.  Tyler played while he was in college for Wheeling Jesuit, N.C.C.C., and G.C.C.  He also played for ULAX, Brigade Floor Time, and local pick-up games.  Tyler enjoyed attending the Lancaster High School Alumni Games each summer.  Lacrosse was part of Tyler’s identity, gave him great joy and connected him with great friends and others who loved the game.


Besides his parents and step-father Tyler is also survived by his siblings Jacob (Christa) Godfrey, Emma Unger, Julia Unger, and Karissa Breton; aunts Theresa Godfrey, Barbara Stinson, and Judie Kowalik; uncles John (Lisa) Godfrey, Michael Stinson, Kevin Stinson; nieces Arabella, Luna, and Kali Godfrey; nephew Eryx Godfrey; cousins Andrew Godfrey, Alex Cappola and his dad Patrick Cappola, Crystal, Cody, and Casey Holler, Brandon Stinson, Allison and Paige Martin, and Joshua Miller. Tyler was predeceased by his grandparents Howard and Rosemary (Savittiere) Godfrey, Rodney Pomeroy and Doloros (Ruston) Stinson, and aunt Cheryl Martin.


Relatives and friends are invited to visitation Monday, June 16, from 4-7PM in Prudden And Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 17th at All Saints Parish, 76 Church Street, Lockport. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
