Obituary of Deone W. Drake
Deone W. Drake, 66, of Amherst, NY, was welcomed into the presence of Jesus on May 18, 2025. Born in North Tonawanda, he was a lifelong Western New Yorker, except during his seminary years at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.
For 37 years, Deone faithfully served at The Chapel as a teacher at Christian Central Academy, Singles Pastor, and Teaching Pastor. His greatest joy was opening the Scriptures and helping others grow in their understanding of God’s Word. While The Chapel remained his ministry home, he also blessed many churches across Western New York through preaching, mentoring pastors, and speaking at retreats. His ministry touched countless lives far beyond a single congregation.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (née Glose); his son, Jonathan (Gabe); and his grandchildren, Giavanna and Marco. He was predeceased by his step-son, Marc Rebadow. Deone is also survived by his father, David (Kathy) Drake Sr.; his mother, Sondra LaBelle; his siblings, David (Anne) Drake Jr., Kelly (Steve) Laughlin, Robie (Marlene) Drake, Daniel Drake, and Sarah Drake; along with many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and the countless people he shepherded and encouraged throughout his life.
Deone was an avid cyclist, golfer, and lover of Southern Gospel music. He was known for his dry wit, his generosity in opening doors for others in ministry, and his deep desire to see people flourish in faith and life. He would want to be remembered most as Patty’s devoted husband, the loving father of Jonathan and Marc, proud father-in-law to Gabe, and “Papa D” to Giavanna and Marco. More than anything, Deone loved Jesus, cherished His Word, and devoted his life to serving Christ and His Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at The Chapel (CrossPoint Campus), 500 CrossPoint Parkway, Getzville, NY. The family will receive visitors from 9:00–11:00am, with the service immediately following at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Chapel, to further the ministry and message of Jesus that Deone devoted his life to sharing.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
