I first learned of Pastor Deon when I started attending The Chapel in 2003, after leaving my childhood church of 35 years. The Chapel Quartet was singing and that gave me comfort, helping me to feel at home. I bought their CD immediately following that service, and still have it to this day. I also tremendously enjoyed learning under Pastor Deon. it was such an honor. His teachings gave a sense of safety and security, knowing he was speaking truth.

With a friendship that spanned over three decades, how do we say goodbye without tears of sorrow that you are gone, combined with tears of joy that our bond will last through eternity until we are reunited again?
We will miss singing together in The 3D Trio, the countless hours spent in our family room learning and rehearsing new songs for concerts, and your love for pies—especially the joy I felt in making them for you. You have meant so much to Dave and me.
Somehow, I sensed that our last concert this past Christmas would be our final one. You were not only a wonderful friend but also a spiritual guide. We cherished your in-depth Bible classes and learned so much from your teachings.
We will see you in Heaven. Who knows, perhaps we will sing together again as a trio throughout eternity. If there's one thing I am certain of, it's that you had no fear of death and longed to see Jesus face to face.

My prayers and thoughts are with the entire Drake family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Pastor Deone will be greatly missed. When I reflect on my years at the Chapel, learning about Jesus and what it means to live with faith, Pastor Deone played such a significant role through Sunday messages, MTI bible classes, and the Thursday evening bible study for singles. I learned so much through him and will always be thankful. Pastor Deone always ministered with such determination, humility, humor, and a great passion for God’s word in the Bible. He was loving, humble servant of the Lord. I took some courses at the Chapel that he taught and he was very helpful in my growth in Christ. I had some concerns and questions about the faith (I was young in the faith at the time), and he took me out to lunch and walked through the scriptures with me to address them.. I now live in southwest Florida and continue to walk with the Lord. I was called to be an Elder at my local church. I am thankful he was part of walk with Christ and to have know him.

I first met Deone in 1991. I had only known the Lord for two years. Despite the differences in age (I was 16 years older) we soon became friends. I can honestly say, other than my son Joseph, Deone was the best friend I ever had. I will always remember the good times we had together the bike rides and walks along Niawanda park in Tonawanda, followed by ice cream at Mississippi Mudds. Besides all the good times we had, Deone will always be remembered as an awesome Bible teacher. His lessons and friendship helped form the Christian man that I am today. I had the privilege of Unkown Pastor Deone for close to 13 years. He was a true inspiration and role model for my journey of walking with Jesus. I had the privilege of going to the Holy Land and live out the Bible to walk, where Jesus walked! The best part about the trip was having Deone baptize me in the Jordan river! I’ll never forget that! Every time I watch that video I tear up now because I will not get to see Deone until the Lord calls me home! I wish I had a better picture with him! Thank you for all the memories Deone. Pat, Jonathan and extend family if you need anything don’t hesitate to reach out!

When I think of Pastor Deone, my thoughts go back over 30 years ago to the Chapel on North Forest Rd. Deone was one of four singers in a men’s quartet that would sing so wonderfully to the Lord on Sunday’s. The joy it brought to Pastor Andrew’s and the whole congregation is something I will never forget! Pastor Deone’s love and passion for God’s word was so apparent in all his teaching! Pastor Deone’s legacy lives on in his son Jonathan who is a wonderful Bible teacher. I thank God I had the privilege of knowing Deone and he will be missed by me and my family. My sincere condolences to Deone’s wonderful wife Patty, Jonathan, Gabe and the family. Please know I am praying that the peace of Jesus will fill your hearts now and always!

My memory of Deon was when the Chapel allowed him and his family to come out to our little country church. He came to us to help North Darien Baptist Church during a time of transition. Deon with Pat and Jonathan by his side were a huge blessing to NDBC. My sincere condolences to Pat , Jonathan and their family.

I met Pastor Deone Drake when I attended The Chapel Singles' meetings when The Chapel was on N. Forest Road in Amherst. The original founder, Pastor James Andrews, was the leader. Having had years of experience in Toastmasters, I learned to evaluate content and presentation of speakers. I was extremely impressed at the Single's Meetings with Deone's lessons. Not only was he always prepared, he often over-prepared. He often procured information from many sources. First and foremost, of course, was the Bible. He wove his sources together and presented them in a succinct, factual, organized, captivating and persuasive delivery
. It was always evident that he loved the Lord with his whole heart, soul and spirit. I am grateful to have known Deone and profitted from his inspiring lessons. I am the better for having known him! Sorrowfully I acknowledge the great loss for his families, his relatives, his congregation, his friends and community.
Please accept my deep condolences. So many of us were favorably impacted by Deone graciously sharing his gift of teaching! He will be deeply missed.

My most vivid memory of Pastor Drake was when he spoke at Mr. Saxer’s funeral last August. The way he recited Psalm 23 left us all in tears, and then he said, “We all know the words, but right now Bob is with the Shepherd.” That is what I have been thinking all week: Deone is with the Shepherd. When I think of Deone, I think of Jesus and God’s Word. I know Jesus more today because of what I learned from Pastor Deone. I am so thankful for his passion, his deep understanding and knowledge of the Truth and his wisdom…all of which I had the blessing of experiencing through his teaching.

Deone’s heart for Jesus and others was huge. His biblical knowledge was second to none. It was a privilege to sit under so many of his teachings in MTI/renovation institute and so many Sunday ams. To witness the love and wit that he had when performing a wedding, and to sit one on one with him receiving encouragement and counsel during a difficult time. To hear him speak so lovingly of his wife, sons and especially his grandkids every chance that he could get showed his vulnerable side. He Loved Jesus even more. Striving, even in His later days, to become more like Him. He knew he would never arrive while living on earth. He was a spiritual Giant in the Faith with a heart for Jesus and others that was even bigger than his knowledge. Truly blessed to know him and even more blessed to call him a friend and mentor. He will be missed, but we know he is healthy again and celebrating in Heaven. Receiving a “well done my good and faithful servant.” I can’t wait to see him again!

Q: Describe where Deone worked and what they did
A: I was one of Mr. Drake's students in 1985 and 1986 at CCA. He taught Geometry and Bible classes. The Geometry didn't have lasting value perhaps, but I still remember the Bible classes and our wonderful discussions. I remember when he met his wife and how in love he was. He always remarked how beautiful she was both inside and out. He will be missed on this earth.
