Obituary of Irene F. Scranton

Irene F. Scranton passed away on Friday February 7, 2025 in Lockport.  Born in Buffalo on November 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Ida Henshaw France.  Irene graduated from Kensington High School.  She owned and operated Scranton Thruway Builders Supply with her late husband George C. Scranton Jr., who passed away June 16, 2002.  Irene was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church and served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Kenmore Rotary Ann.  She loved golfing and was a self-taught crafter, enjoying quilting and painting.

Irene was the mother of Christine (Francis) Sullivan, Nancy (Peter) Militello, Douglas (Nancy) Scranton and the late David (Kathleen) Scranton.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Beside her husband and son, Irene is also predeceased by her brothers, Richard (late Jeanne) France, Lawrence (late Sophie) France and Charles (Dianne) France.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 13th 4-7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14th at 10 AM, in St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 2368 Eggert Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150.  Interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Online condolences at www.pruddenandkandt.com.
